In our practice, we quietly attune ourselves to the texture of life: using low-saturation hues as a foundation, we introduce natural light and shadow to soften the boundaries between interior and exterior, allowing the architecture to engage in a dialogue with its surroundings. Every detail is crafted to present a luminous and elegant lifestyle, conveying a sense of tranquil poise—a serene retreat hidden within the bustling city.
With modern minimalism as its skeleton and Eastern Zen as its soul, this design integrates thepermeability and reserved openness of Suzhou gardens into contemporary living. In terms of materials, the raw textures of micro-cement, natural wood, metal, and marble are juxtaposed with exquisite detailing. A double-height void and a suspended staircase enhance the sense of spatial fluidity, while an open-plan layout allows natural light to filter through. Linear lighting and the warm glow of a fireplace balance the cool tones, with artistic installations punctuating the space with Zen accents. This realizes the modern ideal of “a dwelling with a view within the house”.
A standalone villa of 1,500 square meters by the shores of Taihu Lake, it possesses a spacious and soothing scale, brimming with the warmth of daily life. The seamless integration of home and nature is utterly captivating. After a careful examination of the original spatial structure, the designer reconceived the vertical relationships within the villa and thoughtfully considered the layout and sequence of its various functions, ultimately presenting a relaxed and liberating residential aesthetic. The interior space cedes maximum ground to natural light, where the interplay of light and shadow, along with the traces of human movement, flow through the space with effortless grace. Together, they form a moving tableau and a concerto, revealing a vibrant and profound connection between people and nature.
Employing the “borrowed scenery” technique of Suzhou gardens, floor-to-ceiling glass dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, transforming the Taihu stones, bamboo grove, and water features in the courtyard into a natural backdrop for the interior. Both the living room and the tea room open onto the courtyard, where the play of light over time traces dynamic ink paintings upon the walls. In the tea room, one may sit in quiet contemplation behind drawn blinds, or slide open the door to step into the garden and engage in a quiet dialogue with nature.
Deeply integrating the artistic conception of Jiangnan gardens with a contemporary high-end lifestyle, the architecture continues the traditional form of black-tiled white-walled structures. Floor-to-ceiling transparent glass dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, bringing Eastern Zen elements—such as dried pines, strategically placed rocks, and mirrored water features—into everyday living spaces. On a spatial level, warm wood, natural travertine, and delicate fabrics form the foundation, layered with clean lines and warm-toned linear lighting.
